Permian Basin Rig Count Falls by Three to 553

The number of active rigs in the Permian Basin declined by 3 to 553 last week, this according to the industry leader Baker Hughes. In District 8 alone, which includes oil-rich Midland, there were 320 rigs alone. While the number did decline from last week, year-over-year shows an increase of 85 rigs in the basin. The total for the whole state of Texas last week was 889, this up from 843 for the same time last year.



The Top 10 states by rig include:

1) Texas: 889
2) Oklahoma: 200
3) North Dakota: 170
4) Louisiana: 109
5) New Mexico: 90

The number of active rigs for the US moved up to 1858 while Canada also moved up to 265.
